Suspenseful pause…

I just switched CNN off, in the hopes that I can get a little bit of work done this morning before heading in to teach my class, do a few other things, and then take my weekly class at college today…and then return home and switch that damn idiot box on again to see who might be lighting fires in the United States sooner rather than later because their candidate didn’t win.

This entire election has me very nauseated, and I know I’m not the only one.

Since the debates, with my classes at college (the population here is pretty diverse, and there has been some inadvertent offending of the partisans of a certain orange candidate several times, alas), I’ve been resorting to the following phrase from The IT Crowd quite a lot:

[Though I seem to remember it a bit differently…I’ve only seen this full episode once, and I could have sworn they said “Did you see that disgraceful display last night?” I suspect it was my own memories of Ireland coming in to influence things, as I heard “disgraceful” a lot more in Ireland when I lived there. Well, “ludicrous” works just as well…!?!]

I had a weird dream about Tronald Dump getting in trouble for demonology a few nights ago (which would make him a lot more interesting…no more appealing in my book, but more interesting, at least!), and in my last period of sleep, Jon Bon Jovi was in my dream (due to his having made appearances to support Hilary over the last few days), but things took a very strange turn in that dream, too…

I heard Hilary say, last night, that she is a candidate that would build bridges rather than building walls…and of course–me being me!–I immediately thought of both Hadrian and Hedwig and the Angry Inch with that…I don’t know that Hadrian would say “Ain’t much of a difference” between the two of them, like Hedwig did, but in any case…

I did vote last week, and that was a heroin experience (and not the good kind)…after not receiving a ballot and going to the local precinct office to check on it, they had LOST my registration transfer, and while I was able to get a ballot (for Skagit County rather than Island County…!?!) and to vote, nonetheless I’m not happy about that even remotely.

I am not going to pray on behalf of one candidate or another (though I think it’s pretty clear who I support; anyone with Mike Pence on their ticket is not going to get my vote, even if there was an ice cube’s chance in Muspelheim of me voting for the tangerine nightmare before that), because at this point I don’t think it’s necessary to do so; but I am going to pray to a variety of Deities and divine beings, including Eirene and Pax, Ma’at, and of course Hadrian and Antinous, that whatever happens, things in the process of peaceful transition of power go as smoothly as possible. I hope all of you are safe out there, and get out and vote (whomever it might be for)–that’s the significant thing about this election in my book, and I suspect in history, i.e. it took two candidates that are this disliked to actually motivate this many Americans to go and vote. I can be somewhat happy with the likelihood of the death of apathy for Election Day itself, but I hope that apathy and laziness set in again immediately if the more militant wings of certain factions decide they want to try and do something about the rest of the country not going the way they preferred…
